For 75 years, voices have been coming together in Stockton to create something larger than any single singer.

That legacy will take center stage on Saturday, October 17, 2026, when the Stockton Chorale opens its 75th Anniversary “Diamond Season” with 75 Years of Inspiring Joy at 7 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 3700 Pacific Avenue in Stockton. The retrospective concert will celebrate seven and a half decades of choral music in the community.

A Celebration Across Generations

The anniversary concert is designed to look back across the Chorale’s history while bringing together the people who helped shape it.

Returning former artistic directors and alumni singers will join today’s performers for a program featuring music heard throughout the Chorale’s past. Current ensembles taking part include the Master Chorale, Valley Youth A Cappella and Stockton Youth Chorale, creating a performance that connects longtime members with a new generation of singers.

That reunion gives the evening a meaning beyond a traditional concert.

For former members, it is an opportunity to return to an organization that may have been part of their lives decades ago. For current singers and young performers, it is a chance to stand alongside people who helped build the Chorale’s legacy.

And for the audience, it offers a musical journey through 75 years of Stockton history.

From a Small Ensemble to a Stockton Institution

The Stockton Chorale has grown into an organization that now supports multiple adult and youth ensembles.

Its flagship Stockton Master Chorale currently includes approximately 60 to 85 auditioned singers and performs a broad repertoire that ranges from classical masterworks to contemporary music and works representing underrepresented composers and cultures. Recent programs have included Handel’s Messiah, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, music of Mexico, and a concert celebrating music of Asia and the Pacific Islands.

The organization also supports youth music through the Stockton Youth Chorale and Valley Youth A Cappella, creating a pathway for younger singers to develop their voices and perform as part of the wider Chorale family.

That commitment to multiple generations of singers makes the 75th anniversary especially fitting.

The Chorale’s history is not simply measured in concerts. It can also be measured in the thousands of rehearsals, friendships, performances and shared experiences that have accumulated across three quarters of a century.

The Beginning of a Diamond Season

75 Years of Inspiring Joy will serve as the opening celebration for an entire season built around the anniversary.

The Diamond Season will continue in December with How Great Our Joy, followed in March 2027 by All the Ends of the Earth, featuring a newly commissioned work by composer Kile Smith written specifically in honor of the Chorale’s 75th anniversary. The season concludes in May with Sing Diamonds and Hearts, a celebration of the music of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Together, the concerts are intended to honor the organization’s past while also looking toward its future.

For Stockton, the anniversary represents something increasingly rare: a local arts organization that has continued bringing people together through music for generation after generation.

On October 17, singers from the Chorale’s past and present will share the same stage, not simply to look back at 75 years of music, but to begin the next chapter together.
