Stockton City Leaders Join Volunteers at Emergency Food Bank

On Monday, November 3, members of the Stockton City Council rolled up their sleeves alongside local elected officials to volunteer at the Emergency Food Bank on Scotts Avenue. From 11 a.m. to noon, city leaders helped sort, pack, and distribute food to families in need — a visible show of solidarity during a time of financial strain for many households affected by delays in federal CalFresh and EBT benefits.

The volunteer effort comes as the region experiences growing demand for food assistance due to the ongoing federal budget impasse. Councilmembers and staff joined volunteers already working tirelessly to ensure families don’t go hungry.

Mayor Christina Fugazi addressed the significance of the event, sharing a message of compassion and unity:

“Families across our country are feeling real anxiety right now due to the federal shutdown and delays in SNAP benefits. Here in Stockton, many of our neighbors are worried about putting food on the table. In moments like this, Stockton does what Stockton always does — we look out for each other.”

The mayor encouraged residents to lend a hand wherever possible.

“Give food. Give time. Give support. Our local partners, including the Emergency Food Bank, are here for our community. When each of us shares what we can, no family is left behind.”

Vice Mayor Lee echoed the call to action, emphasizing collaboration across city, county, and state lines to address food insecurity:

“In times of crisis, our community stands together. The federal suspension of SNAP benefits has placed many families in urgent need, but we are responding with unity and compassion. The City of Stockton is working closely with San Joaquin County, the State of California, and partners like the Emergency Food Bank to make sure no one goes hungry.”

The Emergency Food Bank of Stockton continues to serve individuals and families throughout San Joaquin County year-round through food distribution and nutrition programs. Donations and volunteers are always needed to keep operations running smoothly.
