Stockton and San Joaquin County are getting ready to celebrate the planet in a big way.
The 37th Annual Earth Day Festival is set for Sunday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Victory Park behind Haggin Museum, bringing the community together for a full day of environmental education, live entertainment, food, and family-friendly activities. This year’s theme, “Our Power Our Planet,” highlights the importance of sustainable energy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and sharing accurate environmental information with the community.
As one of the area’s premier environmental events, the festival promises something for all ages. More than 80 vendors are expected to participate, offering interactive booths, demonstrations, displays, and exhibits designed to help local residents learn practical ways to care for the environment. Attendees can also enjoy a variety of food options, including vegetarian and vegan fare, while spending the day exploring activities geared toward kids, families, and anyone interested in greener living. Best of all, admission is free.
The event will also shine a spotlight on the many local groups working to build a healthier future. Area schools will share hands-on activities that teach students and families how to better care for the Earth. Environmental organizations will offer information on important green issues and actions residents can take to make a difference. Community agencies will provide resources for living healthier, more positive lives, while green businesses will showcase ideas that can help people make more sustainable choices at home and at work.
And it would not be a festival without entertainment.
The day begins with yoga at 10 a.m., followed by live performances starting at 11 a.m. Festivalgoers can look forward to a lively lineup of local talent and cultural performances, including the Port City Jazz Orchestra, Mariachi Voz Campesina, The Mix-up, and the returning Blowbacks big band swing.
This year’s Earth Day Festival is being presented through the combined efforts of the Environmental Justice Coalition for Water, City of Stockton, Stockton Area Water Suppliers, Tuleburg Press, San Joaquin Registrar of Voters, AVA Community Energy, and Hatch Workshop. Organizers are also encouraging businesses and organizations to support the event through sponsorships, and community members who want to get involved can volunteer to help make the day a success.
For Stockton families, environmental advocates, and anyone looking for a fun and meaningful way to spend the day outdoors, the Earth Day Festival offers a chance to connect, learn, and celebrate the power of community action.
