Tahitian Dance Festival Brings Island Spirit to Downtown Stockton October 16–19

Downtown Stockton is about to transform into a vibrant island of culture, rhythm, and tradition as the 7th annual Te Fa’a No Te ‘Ori (Valley of Dance) Festival returns October 16–19, 2025. This four-day celebration of Tahitian dance and Polynesian heritage promises world-class performances, hands-on workshops, and unforgettable cultural experiences for the entire community.

A Cultural Kickoff Like No Other

The festivities begin Thursday, October 16, at the University Plaza Hotel, where a special cultural program will spotlight tradition-bearers traveling directly from Tahiti. Attendees will enjoy:

  • Panel Discussion with Tahitian masters diving into the history and evolution of ‘Ori Tahiti (Tahitian dance).

  • Costume-Making Traditions revealing the artistry and cultural significance of Tahitian design.

  • Dance & Drumming Workshops with world-renowned practitioners leading immersive, hands-on learning.

Celebrations, Competitions, and Community

On Friday, October 17, the energy surges with an opening celebration at University Plaza, setting the stage for two action-packed days of competitions and performances. On Saturday, October 18, and Sunday, October 19, the spotlight shifts to the Adventist Health Arena, where thousands will gather to witness Stockton come alive with the sights and sounds of Tahiti.

Highlights include:

  • World-Class Tahitian Dance Competitions – Soloists, groups, and drummers showcasing the athleticism and artistry of ‘Ori Tahiti.

  • Cultural Exchange – Direct connection to Tahitian culture through panels, workshops, and performances.

“Having culture bearers join us directly from Tahiti makes Te Faa No Te Ori 2025 especially meaningful,” said Yolanda Amen, CEO of Mata’irea Polynesian Culture Preservation and Producer of TFNTO 2025. “It’s not only about the competition — it’s about honoring tradition, sharing knowledge, and bringing Stockton into the global conversation of Polynesian culture.”
